Farren welcomes jobs boost for Belfast
Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Sean Farren, has welcomed the creation of 250 jobs at the new ‘Big W’ store, Yorkgate, Belfast, due to open at the beginning of November.
Speaking during a visit to the store, Minister Farren said the jobs being created by Big W were a welcome boost to the local economy.
He added: “The management of Big W is to be congratulated for engaging with the local community to attract unemployed persons to fill these vacancies, which will prove to be a major boost to the area.
“I am delighted that the T&EA has been able to assist the new company in its recruitment drive by providing offices for interviews, as well as making job application forms available for all potential employees throughout its network of job agencies in the area.
“Staff will also have the opportunity to undergo training which will lead to NVQs in a diverse range of subjects - from customer service to warehouse management.”
Big W store manager, Phil Ryan, thanked the Minister for his Department’s continued support and said his store had been greatly assisted by the T&EA’s North Belfast JobCentre in their set up operation and were able to use their facilities for interview purposes and the dissemination of job application forms.
Big W is part of the Woolworths Group and will be located at the Yorkgate Shopping Complex, their first store in Ireland. (MB)
