NIO Checks Nelson Findings
Legal checks are being carried out on the findings of a public inquiry into the murder of solicitor Rosemary Nelson, the Government has confirmed. The NIO Secretary of State, Owen Paterson was commenting about the probe into the death of Mrs Nelson, a 40-year-old mother-of-three, who died after a bomb planted by the loyalist Red Hand Defenders exploded under her car as she left her home in Lurgan on March 15, 1999. The inquiry team had already said it hoped to have its long-awaited report into the allegations of security force collusion in the killing completed by the end of April. Now Owen Paterson has said Government lawyers are beginning their review of the inquiry's report to ensure its contents do not endanger any individual or compromise national security.
Trains Arrive
The NI Transport Minister, Conor Murphy, today welcomed the arrival of the first of 20 brand new 'Class 4000' trains at Pollock Dock, Belfast Harbour. The new train was delivered by ship from the Spanish train builders, CAF to Belfast docks where Translink took delivery and transported it to their York Road engineering depot. "The start of delivery of these 20 trains represents an £114mcommitment by my Department to improve and modernise rail services. On top of the £81m investment in 23 trains in 2005 - this means that all the older trains currently in service will be replaced," he said, noting the Department will also fund associated projects such as a new Train Maintenance Facility at Adelaide, Belfast and platform extensions as well as the start of the Londonderry to Coleraine track relay. 'Springsteen' Rocks Belfast
Bruce Springsteen was in Belfast last weekend - but in the guise of 'The Human Touch - Northern Ireland's only tribute to 'the boss' himself. The band's debut at the Spring & Airbrake in Belfast's Ormeau Avenue saw Kildress man 'Mickey D' takes on the role of the boss himself with both similar looks and true-to-life replication of sound and movement. Born in The USA, Dancing In The Dark, Hungry Heart, Born To Run and many more hits lit up the Spring & Airbrake with a near capacity crowd.
