Jobs Lost As Birthdays In Liquidation

Clinton Cards has placed its Birthdays Ireland chain into liquidation.

The greetings card retailer, which made up of 14 loss-making stores, said its Clinton Cards and Birthdays stores in the UK were unaffected by the move.

At the beginning of this year, the company reported it's adjusted operating profits had increased by 3.8% to £16.2m for the 52 week period to 1 August.

"This was achieved in spite of a challenging trading environment as a consequence of weak economic conditions and fragile consumer confidence," the Chairman Don Lewin said.

Meanhwhile, in the North there has been mixed job news. Over 30 jobs are to go at the HML call centre in Co. Derry, while 130 new posts are being created in Co. Antrim.

Schrader Electronics announced the new positions. The company makes products to read the tyre pressure of cars and lorries. Most of the new workers have already been recruited.

It will bring the total of employees there to almost 1,000.
