Construction industry critical to growth of local economy
The construction industry is critically important for the future growth of our economy, Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Sean Farren, has said at the finals of the prestigious Skillbuild UK competition held in Ballymena.
The Minister, who presented the winners with their prizes, said: “I am delighted that this prestigious competition has been held in Northern Ireland for the first time in 10 years and would like to thank the Construction Industry Training Board for the part they played in having the finals brought here.
“The competition plays an important role in raising the profile of construction skills and in demonstrating the high standard of training right across the UK.
“We need to develop the skills and knowledge of our young people in order that industry can maintain the competitiveness which is necessary for increased efficiency and employment.”
The event, which was organised by Skillbuild UK, was postponed from June due to the foot and mouth epidemic. The competition is the annual national competition for young people in the construction industry. (MB)
