Fine Gael 'Virtually Winning' Irish Election
Fine Gael may be favourites to win Friday's Irish General Election, but users can virtually win it for them on their new online game.
The party has launched a side-scrolling platform game on their website, allowing you to take control of a sprightly Enda Kenny, the Fine Gael leader, in his quest for votes.
During the game named after the party's election slogan, 'Let's Get Ireland Working' players must 'take out' opposition members such as Brian Lenihan and Eamon Gilmore by throwing Fine Gael logos at them.
The launch of the game comes as Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny outlined new proposals to boost games firms by allowing companies to offset the research and development credits against employers' PRSI as an alternative to corporate tax.
The plan also includes extra tax relief for R&D spending, accelerated capital allowances on software purchases against other income and corporation tax profits from eight years to three years. All Government department and agency payments will also be made electronically, as part of their move towards high-end technology.
Speaking at 'Popcap Games' on Pearse Street in Dublin, Enda Kenny said that if elected , Fine Gael would implement specific policies to support the gaming industry by providing €10 million from the Innovation Fund Ireland to support new start digital gaming companies.
"The high tech sector of the Irish economy can help lead us out of recession. It can create new jobs in high value added areas and offer hope for some of our best and brightest young people who otherwise might end up emigrating," he said.
Fine Gael Senator Paschal Donohoe said the potential in the gaming industry is huge and that, under Fine Gael plans, Ireland is well positioned to capitalise on the market.
