NIE receive top business award
Northern Ireland Electricity has received a top business award from the British Quality Foundation.
At the award ceremony attended by many of the UK’s top business leaders, winners were presented with their 2001 UK Business Excellence Award by Princess Anne.
NIE Managing Director Harry McCracken said he viewed the award as a boost for the whole business community in Northern Ireland: “We are delighted to have won the British Quality Foundation Business Excellence Award. To take top honours in a category which includes Roll-Royce, Marconi Defence Systems and Siemens Communications shows that Northern Ireland companies can compete with companies that are world leaders in their field.”
Mr McCracken added that for Northern Ireland Electricity quality was an “ongoing process of continuous improvements in terms of service, price and reliability”.
He said that quality was a vital business tool for NIE as the company was preparing to enter new and competitive markets.
Also awarded 2001 UK Business Excellence awards were NSK Bearings Europe, and Rolls-Royce Airlines Operations.
Run by the British Quality Foundation the Business Excellence Awards are considered to be the UK business “Oscars”.
Each year hundreds of companies vie for the awards that have rigorous and challenging requirements that are judged by a team of independent assessors drawn from a bank of experienced managers from leading UK organisations.
The applicants’ operations are then examined in detail by the panel of assessors before the application is passed on to the Awards Jury for their consideration. (SP)
