Three Held After Co Derry Hi-Jack Bid
A man and woman were forced off the road and out of their car in Kilrea, Co Londonderry in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Although they were dragged from their black Peugeot 306, they were not hurt during the incident on Blackrock Road.
Three men - aged between 21 and 18 - were detained by police at Moneydig Road a short time later. Police are investigating a link to a report of another vehicle being rammed and three cars found on fire in the vicinity.
Among the cars later found alight nearby - one of those was believed to be the Peugeot 306.
It is as yet unknown if this was connected to the police in Co Londonderry trying to locate three male occupants of a car stolen in Co Donegal, which evaded officers on Thursday morning.
The men came to the attention of the PSNI in the Crescent Link area of Derry City at 10am on Thursday morning after a car had been stolen an hour earlier from a house in Kinnego near Buncrana, Co Donegal during an aggravated burglary.
Soon afterwards, in Northern Ireland, the search was ongoing for the grey Vauxhall Astra, which was stolen later on Thursday morning in Londonderry.
"We believe the offenders are now using a car stolen in the Drumahoe area just before 10.30am," a police statement said also advising that members of the public should "not attempt to stop or follow this car or approach the occupants."
In a separate - unconnected - violent indecent over the weekend, a delivery driver has had a gun held to his head during an attempted armed robbery in Newtownhamilton, Co Armagh.
He was driving along the Cullyhanna Road on Friday morning when a silver Renault car pulled in front of him, forcing him to stop.
Two men, armed with a cudgel and gun, got out smashed a window in the vehicle and threatened the driver.
He managed to reverse the lorry and make his escape - but he was left extremely shaken by the ordeal. The police are investigating the incident.
