BT to offload Apollo Road call centre
BT is set to sell its Apollo Road call centre in Belfast in a £10m deal.
The centre, which has had an uncertain future for the past number of months, is expected to be purchased by Indian Technology company HCL.
Employing close to 500 people, BT opened the Apollo Road centre in 1998. At the time it handled calls mostly for other companies and had a projected workforce of 750.
However, as BT has experienced severe financial difficulties in recent months, the telecommunications company has been looking to cut back and off-load peripheral parts of its business.
While it had been in talks with Northern Ireland based e-mail services company Gem, a deal could not be reached. Now BT is selling the majority stake in the business to HCL.
HCL, a major player in software development throughout Europe, is currently seeking to expand its call centre operations. (MB)
