Adria secure major US contract
Northern Ireland textile firm Adria have won a major contract with the United States retailer Victoria's Secret, which has 900 shops.
Adria say the order will help to secure the future of their workforce. Terry McCartney, Adria’s Chairman, said the company was confident that their share of business with the US firm would increase in the coming months and help to protect the 2,000 strong workforce.
Adria, which in February announced the closure of their factory in Newry, County Down, with the loss of 165 jobs, has undergone major restructuring and has drawn up a new strategy focusing on high quality products.
McCartney said Adria now intended to concentrate on making hosiery and have been gradually transferring their staff from lingerie production into hosiery.
McCartney said the support of the workforce and the "flexible approach adopted by our people has helped us to come through this extremely difficult period, to secure jobs and to build a strong future for the company in Northern Ireland". (GB)
