BAA reveals true cost of September 11 attacks
Airports operator BAA has revealed that uncertainties caused by the September 11 US terrorist attacks were continuing to dramatically affect airline passenger numbers.
As a result of the attacks BAA said that passenger traffic through its airports across the UK had failed to recover in the first three weeks of October.
The company said that the loss in earnings left profits growth, between April to September, at around one third the level it was running before the attacks. Profits of £334m for the half year, compared with £329m a year before, represented a strong performance in the face of current economic difficulties, it added.
By midmorning on Monday October 29 company shares stood 11p lower at 362p. (MB)
