Financial Secretary to Treasury addresses Business Breakfast
The Financial Director of the Treasury, Paul Boateng, has addressed a Business Breakfast of leading business people at First Trust’s Belfast Headquarters.
The Minister, who was welcomed by Dennis Licence, Managing Director of First Trust Bank, addressed the early morning diners on the theme of building a productive society through investing in economic and social capital.
In welcoming the Financial Secretary to First Trust Bank, Mr Licence said that they were delighted that Mr Boateng was able to attend and that First Trust Bank took its role as a responsible corporate citizen very seriously.
He added: “We view our corporate community involvement as an integral part of our overall operation and it has been an important part of our ethos for many years, not just at a corporate level, but at a branch level too.”
Mr Boateng, who was appointed Financial Secretary to the UK Treasury in June, was previously Minister for State for Home Affairs from 1998-2001 and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health from 1997 to 1998. (MB)

First Trust To Close 15 Branches In NI
Over 100 jobs are at risk after First Trust Bank confirmed it is to close 15 branches in Northern Ireland. First Trust, which is owned by AIB in Dublin, said the closures had been a "difficult decision". Head of First Trust Bank, Des Moore, said the bank has seen a 40% decline in branch usage since 2010.

Secretary Of State Urged To Intervene For Flood Hit Areas
The Alliance Party has called on the Secretary of State, Chris Heaton-Harris, to intervene to ensure an enhanced financial package is in place to support flood-hit areas. Alliance Finance spokesperson Eóin Tennyson made the call after flooding devastated households and businesses across Northern Ireland, including Newry, Downpatrick and Portadown.

Ulster Bank Fined Over €3m For Breaches Of Money Laundering
Ulster Bank has been fined over €3million for breaches of money laundering and terrorist financing. The Central Bank of Ireland fined Ulster Bank a total of €3.3m after it admitted the breaches occurred over a six year period. An investigation found significant failings, however no actual money laundering or financing of terrorism was identified.

Consumer Confidence Rising, Says Bank
A new NI-based survey has revealed a significant reduction in the number of people who are pessimistic about their anticipated financial position over the coming year. Local consumer confidence rose to its highest level in 10 months in June suggesting that economic stability is helping to shed some of the recessionary gloom.
