Orange Order Leader 'Won't Meet Sinn Fein'
As a Sinn Fein Assembly member said he hoped the new man in charge of the leading loyal order would mark a change and engage in talks with Sinn Fein and the Parades Commission, it has been made clear this won't happen.
Commenting on the appointment of Eddie Stevenson as the new head of the Orange Order, Sinn Fein's Alex Maskey said the party was willing to meet with Mr Stevenson and the rest of the Order.
But, Edward Stevenson, a dairy farmer from Ardstraw near Strabane, who was elected at a meeting in Ballykelly on Wednesday, said Sinn Fein "carry a lot of baggage as far as the Orange Order is concerned".
"There are members who are still suffering and hurting deeply from the wounds that they received through the loss of their loved ones.
"As the situation is at the minute we will not be meeting with Sinn Fein."
He also said Order's policy on contentious parades would not change.
Undeterred, Mr Maskey said yesterday: "The election of a new Grand Master provides an opportunity for the Orange Order to finally step forward and make their contribution to the Peace Process.
"They need to end their nonsensical ban on talking to residents, the Parades Commission and Sinn Fein. In the coming days we will be writing to the new Grand Master, Eddie Stevenson offering to meet with him and the rest of the Orange Order leadership," he said.

Ministers Square Up Over Parades Issue
In spite of working closely together on such issues as their joint condemnation of recent racist attacks, the First and Deputy First Ministers were this week at loggerheads over loyal order parades. First Minister Peter Robinson hit out at comments by his Executive colleague, the Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.

DUP 'Mystified' At Orange Lodge Maze Statement
The DUP has said it is "mystified" by a statement from the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland in opposition to the proposed Maze Peace Centre. Both the Ulster Unionist Party and the Orange Order have warned that the new centre could become a shrine to terrorists.

Orange Halls Attacked Overnight
Two Orange Order halls have been attacked with paint overnight. Paint bombs were thrown at Clifton Street Orange Hall in north Belfast, near Carlisle Circus where last Thursday's Twelfth of July marchers met and departed from. A hall on Main Street in Glenavy, County Antrim was also vandalised in the early hours of this morning.

Orangemen Again Reject Parading Bill
The Orange Order and the leader of the DUP are at odds this week after it emerged that the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland is continuing to reject a new draft parades bill. The Stormont First Minister has been frustrated by news that the loyal order's ruling body voted at the weekend to stand-by its rejection of the draft.

PM Joins 'Defining' Stormont Talks
Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness will hold "defining talks" later, as the political impasse over devolved justice powers threatens to collapse the local institutions. Senior DUP and Sinn Fein figures will attempt to find a resolution to the ongoing stalemate, which intensified after republicans walked away from talks last week.
