Craigavon firm finds American orders on the increase

A Craigavon contract furniture company has been lending a helping hand in the restoration of normality in New York in the wake of the recent attacks of September 11.

Market leaders in Ireland, Derry's has found that their American orders have been soaring despite initial predictions that the tragic events would have a profound impact on their business.

During the past fortnight alone, Derry's has shipped numerous containers carrying Irish pub furniture and bric-a-brac to furnish three theme bars in locations from Newhaven to New York. The company also report that their order schedule is booked solid right through to 2002, mainly from within the New York area.

These orders represent substantial deals for the firm, with most averaging around $100,000 and above, and are the fruit of the company’s efforts to maintain the lines of communication open with America during the period just after the Trade Centre attacks.

Derry's, founded in 1979, initially concentrating on importing reproduction furniture to service the domestic market within Ireland. In the 20 years since its formation, the company has experienced a structured and rapid growth, and subsequent development has now led to Derry’s manufacturing its own range of products and embracing the challenge of supplying the licensed trade with contract furniture.

Derry's has also become a major supplier of architectural salvage and memorabilia. (CL)
