Farren announces £21 million in European funding

The Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Sean Farren, has announced European Social Funding totalling £21 million for employment and training projects.

Issued a call for applications for the funds Dr Farren said: “I am pleased to confirm that from Monday 12 November my Department is inviting applications from projects for funding under the Employment Priority of the Programme for Building Sustainable Prosperity. This is good news for many voluntary and community sector organisations who will now be able to bid for this funding opportunity. Gender access issues and the need to spread Information, Communications and Technology skills have been highlighted by the European Commission as development requirements for all European Member States.

“I am looking to projects to take these into account no matter under which measure they apply for funding. Whilst the overall labour market has improved dramatically in recent years there are still particular needs to be addressed and indeed areas where the voluntary and community sector can make a unique contribution. I look forward to receiving these bids.”

Successful projects will receive funding for up to two years when there will be a further call for projects. (CD)
