Gas Ruled Out As Fermanagh Death Probed

While initially suspected after a man's body was found at a Co Fermanagh house yesterday morning, investigators have already ruled out a gas leak as the cause of the tragedy.

They are still however looking into reports that the property was filled with fumes and this was what killed Killian Scallon, who was in his 50s, and left his wife, Pauline, in a critical condition in hospital.

It happened at the property on the Kesh Road in Irvinestown with the Health and Safety Executive NI assisting police investigations into events.

On Thursday a statement from the Health and Safety Executive said: "HSENI are providing technical assistance to the PSNI who are leading the investigation," but it has been made known that investigators have ruled out a gas leak but are still looking into reports that the property was filled with fumes.

The body of estate agent, Killian Scallon - who was the nephew of Eurovision winner, Dana Rosemary Scallon - along with his critically ill wife was discovered by his two sisters who alerted the emergency services around 11am on Wednesday.

In August, the deaths of two young men from Newtownabbey, who were found dead in a holiday flat by their parents was blamed on gas.

Aaron Davidson was from Fernagh Road and Neil McFerran was from Kings Walk, both in Newtownabbey were discovered dead in a Castlerock holiday flat after a carbon monoxide leak, while a third teenager, Matthew Gaw, survived.
