Emmerdale star to turn on Belfast’s Christmas lightshow
The Lord Mayor of Belfast Jim Rodgers will be joined by television star Lisa Riley to switch on the city’s Christmas lights on Tuesday evening.
The star of ITV's ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘You've Been Framed’ will also be assisted by her co-star in the Grand Opera House pantomime, Aladdin, May McFettridge.
The festivities will kick off at 6.30pm with a Cool FM roadshow at the front of Belfast City Hall on Tuesday November 20 and the switch on itself will take place at around 7.15pm.
The Lord Mayor of Belfast Jim Rodgers said: “The switching on of the Christmas lights is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year, and we can all look forward to yet another tremendous start to the festive season.”
For the first time both this and the tree lights will be powered by renewable energy sources, following the conversion of the City Hall to NIE's Eco Energy tariff last month.
Other highlights of Belfast City Council's Christmas programme, sponsored by Citybus, include carol singing in the City Centre, featuring children from schools across Belfast, will take place each lunchtime between Tuesday December 4 and Friday December 21.
Also the Christmas Fair at St. George's Market, extended to five days will run from Saturday December 8 until Wednesday December 12 and a lamplight procession from St. Anne's Cathedral to the City Hall, will take place on Tuesday December 11. (AMcE)
