Top Photographer Buried

Award winning photographer, John Harrison, a father-of-three, who ran his own respected public relations photography agency, was buried yesterday. He had a career that spanned some of the most iconic moments in Northern Ireland's troubled history and his award-winning photographs are some of the most recognisable images of the Troubles, and he was on first name terms with virtually every Northern Ireland politician of note. Mr Harrison was awarded the MBE in 2008 for services to photography. The 50-year-old took ill suddenly at his home last Thursday night after attending a PR awards ceremony in Belfast, where he presented one of the prizes. Earlier that day, he had returned from the United States where he had covered a major economic conference with Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness. Yesterday, almost 1,000 mourners packed Hillhall Presbyterian Church and grounds for his burial.

Assault Victim 'Critical'

A pensioner is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted in Lisburn on Sunday and the PSNI has arrested a 47-year-old man in connection with the incident. The attack on the 70-year-old took place in the Manor Park area of the city at around 1am, it is understood. Officers from the PSNI Serious Crime Branch have appealed for anyone who was in Longstone Street or Manor Park - in particular at the Lagan Valley Pigeon Club - at the time of the attack to come forward with information.

Oil Drillers Head To Antrim

Irish oil and gas company Providence Resources has been offered a petroleum exploration licence over Rathlin Island by NI's Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment. The initial licence term, its first in Northern Ireland, is for five years with a decision on a well commitment required within three years. Providence says it has committed to carrying out technical studies of the sub-surface geology during the first three years to determine the petroleum potential and inform its decision on a well commitment.

Remains Investigated

A body is thought to have been found in north Belfast and the police are investigating what they believe is human remains. It was found at a house at Downview Park several days ago. A full forensic examination of the scene is due to be carried out. It has not been determined whether a crime has been committed, as it is understood the remains had been there for some time.
