Derry Shooting Probed By PSNI

Londonderry has been the scene of two violent attacks at the weekend.

A 20-year-old man was shot in both legs by a gang of three masked men in a paramilitary-style attack in the Slievemore Park area of Derry at around 9.30pm on Sunday.

The armed gang led the victim to the garden where he was shot in both lower legs and he has since been taken to hospital for treatment, where his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

In a separate incident, a man is being treated for head injuries after a gang in the city assaulted him on Sunday night.

The 21-year-old victim was attacked by up to three men in the Rossnagalliagh area shortly after 10pm on Sunday.

Police say they are working to establish the exact location and circumstances of the attack, and have appealed to anyone with more information to make contact. Meanwhile, PSNI officers investigating separate dissident republican activity have carried out a number of searches at properties in Londonderry.

The searches at homes in the Iniscarn and Swilly Gardens area of the city took place on Saturday afternoon.
