Pipe bomb defused in north Belfast
The army have defused a pipe bomb type device in Alliance Avenue in north Belfast.
The device was discovered around 10am on Monday morning in the back garden of a house about 600 yards from the Catholic Holy Cross primary school which has been at the centre of a bitter 12-week protest.
As children returned to classes today without any demonstrations, Army bomb disposal experts were called in to defuse the device in Alliance Avenue. Police later confirmed it was a pipe bomb-type device and appealed for anyone who noticed suspicious activity overnight to come forward.
Meanwhile in County Tyrone a house in Cookstown has been badly damaged in a petrol bomb attack. The attack was discovered when the occupant returned home to find the front door of her home in Millburn Park kicked in late on Sunday November 25. The remains of the petrol bomb were found inside one bedroom, which was destroyed, and there was smoke and water damage throughout the house. No one was in the house at the time of the attack.
In a separate incident in County Armagh there was a security alert at the Courthouse Complex. A suspicious object was found at the rear of the building in the car park around 11am on Monday November 26. After examination by army technical officers the device was later declared a hoax. (AMcE)
