Gerry Evans 'Disappeared' Search Ended
The cross-border organisation that was set up to recover long-buried IRA terror victims - known as 'The Disappeared' - has confirmed it is calling off a search for a man missing since 1979.
The Dublin/Belfast sponsored Independent Commission for the Location of Victims Remains Commission has spent a year and-a-half looking for the body of Gerry Evans who was last seen in Castleblayney in Co Monaghan.
A statement today said: "Based on the information currently available to the Commission team, all survey and search work on the Carrickrobin site in Co Louth for the remains of Gerard Evans is due to be completed in the next few days.
"The experts will have completed an 18-month long, thorough and painstaking search of areas highlighted in information received.
"Regrettably, to date, the remains of Gerard Evans have not been found," the statement said, noting that some site restoration work will continue in the coming weeks.
Following the abandonment of the search, the Commission joined family members in appealing to anyone who has information on this case, or any of the 'Disappeared' cases, to contact the Dublin free phone line on 0080055585500 or write to the Commission at PO Box 10827, Dublin 2.
They said that any information received is entirely confidential and can only be used to locate victims. It cannot be passed to any other agency nor can it be used in a court of law.
