50 Jobs Created In Mobile Firm

A firm that makes protective covers for mobile phone handsets is to create 50 new jobs in Cork over the next two years, according to the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation.

Batt O'Keeffe revealed today that the 50 new jobs will be across in-house sales, customer service, accounting, engineering, public relations, marketing, web design, graphics, supply chain, human resources and warehousing.

Recruitment is under way after the US-based OtterBox announced it is setting up a new headquarters in Gerorge's Quay, Cork, for the Europe, Middle-East and Africa (EMEA) market.

The firms designs and produces device-specific protective covers for smartphones and handheld mobile phones. OtterBox, which was founded in 1998, is headquartered in Fort Collins, Colorado. Minister O'Keeffe described OtterBox as an "innovative firm that has grown rapidly in line with an expanding smartphone market".

Alarm Control 24 Announces 60 New Jobs
Alarm Control 24, based in Dublin, has announced 60 new jobs for Sandyford. The alarm monitoring firm invested €3m in rolling put its new Radio Telemetry Network. Thirty positions will be created in the first two years of Alarm Control 24's expansion, while a further 20-30 jobs are to come from plans for another expansion in 2014.

A Co Antrim car refurbishment firm, James Black Restorations Ltd is targeting £470,000 worth of new export sales over the next three years with support from Invest Northern Ireland. Lisburn's James Black Restorations specialises in the refurbishment and maintenance of vintage Rolls Royce and Bentley cars.

Wind Energy To Create 10,500 Jobs
Over 10,500 jobs could be created in the wind energy sector by 2020, according to a study by the consultancy firm Deloitte. The study says up to €15bn could be invested in the construction and development of wind-energy projects. It says more than €5bn of this could be retained in the Irish economy.
