Police appeal for fatal road crash witnesses
Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road accident near the village of Toomebridge in County Antrim in which three people died.
The accident happened on the main Belfast to Londonderry road just after 2pm on Thursday, November 29, when a lorry was in collision with a minibus full of adults with learning difficulties.
The appeal was made as police revealed the names of two of those who died when their minibus collided with a lorry. Margaret Warren, 52, from Newtownabbey, Derek McConnell, 35, from Carnlough and another man, believed to be 57 years old, were part of a group of adults who were travelling in the minibus.
A 40-year-old man from Londonderry, who is believed to have been driving the lorry when it crashed, was questioned by police on Friday about dangerous driving with regard to the accident.
Ten other people, including the driver of the minibus, were taken to Antrim Area Hospital following the crash.
Police have appealed to any witnesses who were in the Moneynick Service Station or nearby, at about the time of the accident, to contact them. They also want to speak to the owner of a red car who took the driver of the lorry to hospital.
MP for the area, Martin McGuinness, extended his condolences to the families of those who were killed in the crash and also appealed to road users to exercise “extreme caution” while travelling. (MB)
