Flagship 'Shines' On ITV Daybreak
An NI web-based news business has been shining on national TV today with an item covering Dublin-based SmartGlass International's supply of a large area of solar control glass to the set of the newly launched ITV breakfast anchor program 'Daybreak'.
Presenter Christine Bleakley - who is herself from Co Down - introduced the short segment on an article from what was described as "Ireland's premier portal website", www.build.ie
The programme showed Belfast's Flagship Media Group's website and the article while Christine then demonstrated that the glass was real and not some 'virtual imagery'.
The story, covered online yesterday, was about SmartGlass International's work to install the large area of solar control SmartGlass for Daybreak - the new breakfast television programme for the ITV network anchored by Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles. Daybreak has replaced GMTV which aired its last weekday edition on Friday 3 September.
The new central London studio with its floor to ceiling windows offers an unrivalled view over the city skyline from Saint Paul's to the 'Gherkin' and far beyond.
SmartGlass International was called in to design and install a solar control glazing system that would combat the negative effects of direct sunlight including glare and heat.
SPD SmartGlass offered the perfect solution and was installed in approximately 100 window panes.
The glass facade can now be automatically dimmed from clear to dark controlling glare and solar heat gain while protecting the studio inhabitants from the damaging effects of UV.

Minister's Switch On New Hydebank Solar Farm
A new solar farm at Hydebank Wood Secure College and Female Prison has been officially "switched on" by Justice Minister Naomi Long and Environment Minister Andrew Muir. The solar farm consists of 668 solar panels and is capable of producing 356 kWp of electricity, around 15% of the site's total annual power needs.

QUB Plays Role In Solar Science Breakthrough
Queen's University Belfast has played a fundamental role in capturing the clearest and most detailed images of the Sun. Images of the star were taken on the world's largest telescope and released by the National Science Foundation (NSF). It comes after a project involving Queen's and seven other institutes that delivered and supplied the cameras.

Work Begins On New Solar Farm In South Antrim
Work has started on a new solar farm in south Antrim. The £7 million scheme will supply electricity to NI Water's Dunmore Water Treatment works. The work is taking place on a 33-acre site on the eastern shore of Lough Neagh and when completed will produce a peak output of 4.99 megawatts and is expected to save over £0.

Co Antrim Man Jailed Over 'Fake Fire Safety Glass'
A Co Antrim businessman, who sold fake fire safety glass to a construction firm, has been sentenced to one year in prison. Seamus James Laverty from Toomebridge ran Glassworks Ireland from premises at Randalstown.
