Homes Evacuated in Antrim Security Alert
Several homes and a school have been evacuated in Crumlin following the discovery of a suspicious object.
The discovery was made on Wednesday morning and parents of children forced out of the primary school by the security alert said they are disgusted that a suspicious object was left close by.
Some 170 pupils were moved to a community centre after the object was found outside an unmanned police station opposite Crumlin Integrated Primary at 11am on Wednesday, while around 30 families living on Mill Road were also evacuated from their homes.
Army Technical Officers are currently at the scene and Mill Road has been closed between Crumlin Road and Main Street as a result of the alert.
On Monday, an eight-year-old schoolboy at St Comgall's Primary School in Antrim - which is near Crumlin - was at the centre of an alert when he picked up a pipebomb in the school playground.
Meanwhile, the Independent newspaper has claimed that an Army officer with extensive experience of dealing with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Afghanistan is being moved to NI.
It claimed the officer is to "plan the strategy to combat the rising tide of violence from dissident republicans".
The MOD said it did not comment "on operational or tactical matters".
