Westlink Security Alert 'A Hoax

A security alert which resulted in the closure of the Westlink in Belfast has been declared a hoax. Army technical officers were called to the scene to examine three suspicious objects which were found between Broadway and the Grosvenor Road this morning. Traffic was severely disrupted by the security alert.

Four Charged Over Ballycastle Riot

Four men have been charged with a number of offences following rioting in Ballycastle at the weekend. The men, who are all in their twenties, face charges of riotous assembly, possession of offensive weapons and resisting arrest and are due to appear before Coleraine Magistrates Court on September 24. Nineteen people were arrested after a disturbance broke out in the Diamond area of the town in the early hours of Monday morning. Bottles and other items were thrown at police when a large crowd gathered in the area around 2am and two police officers were injured.

Banbridge 'Rio' Fest

Banbridge will come alive with a bevy of colourful costumes and Mardi Gras style music on Saturday, 11th September, 2-4pm as Banbridge District Council's newest cross-community event takes to the streets. It begins at Newry Street roundabout and culminates in Solitude Park. Expect a little bit of 'Rio' to wind its way through the streets with a marvellous Mardi Gras style parade including spirited Samba Bands, Chinese Dragon Dances, Cuban Salsa music and dancing plus Brazilian Drummers and dancers in full plumage. There's also a wide range of fun-filled activities and attractions such as salsa dancing and percussion workshops which will be located in all areas of the park to keep visitors of all ages entertained throughout the afternoon. The event is part-funded by the EU's PEACE III Programme.

Stormont Tea Dance Celebrates Royal Anniversary
It's not quite TV's 'Strictly Come Dancing' but will be one of the biggest ever 'tea dances' to take place in Northern Ireland. Stormont, the location that last week hosted the Princess Royal to wave off the World Rally Championship drivers, is tonight the venue for a huge party in honour of Princess Anne's parents: the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.

Security Alert Launched In Co Tyrone
The PSNI have launched a security alert in Dungannon, Co Tyrone. A suspicious object was discovered in the Fairmount Park area on Wednesday, 17 January. The road has been closed and a number of residents have been evacuated from their homes. No further information has been released.

'Small Bomb' Found During Security Alert
Army bomb experts have been called to examine an explosive device found at an apartment block in east Belfast. Police said that a number of residents were evacuated from the apartments in the Short Strand Road area at about 20:00 on Tuesday night. They described the device as a "small bomb". No further details have been released.
