Boost for South Armagh as Flurrybridge Enterprise Centre opens
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ms Brid Rodgers, has opened Flurrybridge Enterprise Centre, near Jonesborough in South Armagh.
The £1.14 million enterprise centre development located close to the main Belfast-Dublin road will provide 20,000 square feet of high specification manufacturing units and can accommodate up to 15 businesses employing around 75 people.
A joint venture between Newry & Mourne Co-operative and Enterprise Agency and ROSA, the rural network for South Armagh, under the auspices of a joint holding company, Oriel Developments, the Enterprise Centre will help stimulate economic activity in the region.
Conor Patterson, Chief Executive of Newry & Mourne Co-operative and Enterprise Agency, said: “The businesses located in this centre are owned and managed by people who live in the region. South Armagh people are hard working and enterprising. It is no accident that our region has the highest number of small businesses per head of population and the highest rate of business start-ups anywhere in Northern Ireland.”
The project received funding from Interreg through the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Employment and Learning, IFI, Newry & Mourne District Council and LEDU. Newry & Mourne Co-operative and ROSA also made a financial contribution to the project.
Set up in 1972 as a non-profit partnership of business and community representatives, Newry & Mourne Co-operative is dedicated to increasing new businesses and the competitiveness of existing businesses.
A not-for-profit community organisation RoSA provides community development support to over 60 community groups in the Newry & Mourne and Armagh City & District parts of South Armagh. (SP)

£250k Resurfacing Announced For Newry Road
A major £250,000 road resurfacing scheme has been announced for the A25 Newry Road. The works will comprise of approximately 0.65km of carriageway resurfacing of the A25 Newry Road through Camlough village, from south of the U1583, known as Hall Road, to just beyond C217 Chapel Road roundabout.

Half of Govt Contracts Secured By Small Businesses
More than half of Government contracts in Northern Ireland have been won by small businesses, it has been announced. The figures were revealed by Finance Minister Simon Hamilton as he spoke to over 650 suppliers at the annual InterTradeIreland (ITI) 'Meet The Buyer' event in Belfast today.

DEL Launches 'Connected' Phase 3
The third phase of the Department for Employment and Learning’s 'Connected' programme has been launched today. Funded by the Department, Connected is delivered by Queen’s University, the University of Ulster and the six further education (FE) colleges.
