Six Sigma technique highlighted at business seminar
Over 40 local companies have attended a seminar in the Europa Hotel, Belfast looking at the benefits of Six Sigma, a problem solving technique first pioneered in the late 1980’s.
The seminar was organised by IDB’s Business Excellence unit and attracted interest from a wide range of IDB and LEDU client companies who heard speakers from multinationals like Seagate and Bombardier.
Claire Desmond, Six Sigma Project Manager from Seagate in Londonderry, said: “The Six Sigma initiative is redefining the way we work at Seagate. It emphasises teamwork to reach new levels of quality in everything we do.
“The Six Sigma philosophy is central to our working smarter and generating substantial cost savings, while delivering the best products in the business to our customers.”
Delegates also heard how Six Sigma had become the “black belt” of business improvement tools by use of its mixture of problem solving strategies and statistical process controls since its development by Motorola in the late 1980’s. (MB)
