Masquerade Ball Backs Arts Programme
The refurbished and extended Crescent Arts Centre in south Belfast is to launch its autumn programme with a 'decadent' Masquerade Ball.
Preparing for the party is musician Katie Richardson and dancer Sarah MacKeever, (pictured) who are backing the event, which is to raise vital funds for their work providing a wide range of arts and cultural activities.
The centre - which reopened its doors after an extensive refurbishment and restoration in April - will also mark its 30th anniversary on September 4th by giving everyone the chance to win a full year of free classes and events.
Its new autumn programme of eclectic classes and workshops features African drumming, photography, belly dancing, flamenco, tap and ballet, as well as old favourites yoga, art, journalism and drama.
Tots are looked after too, as 'Baby Dance', 'Baby Art' and 'Play Acting' make a return.
Crescent Arts Centre manager, Keith Acheson, said: "Demand for our classes and workshops continues to grow and we would encourage everyone to attend our Enrolment Day on September 4th to secure a place.
"Details of how to win a year of free classes and workshops are available in our new programme, which is available at the centre and at venues across the city, and we look forward to revealing the winner at our gala Masquerade Ball."
The gala event will feature music from Katie and the Carnival and Kyron and the Strangels, as well as circus-style acts and burlesque dancing, courtesy of BelfastUnbound.
A prize for the holder of the Best Mask is planned for this stylish event, which features a full buffet and refreshments.
Dickon Hall Gallery, based at the Crescent, has donated a piece for a silent auction, in addition to the Crescent Townhouse Hotel, which donated a free night's stay and restaurant vouchers for lucky winners on the night.

Crescent Arts Centre Restoration Complete
The newly refurbished Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast has been re-opened, following an 18-month restoration project. The £7.2m scheme involved a refurbishment and restoration, which has preserved the exterior façade of the Grade II listed building. The refurbished centre includes an extension that increases the accommodation by approximately 900m2.

Belfast's refurbished Crescent Arts Centre will opens its doors to the public in April, it has been confirmed. The £7.2m restoration project at the listed Victorian complex began in September 2008. Works undertaken at the arts centre include the creation of new state-of-the-art dance studios, performance spaces and photography studios.

An exciting illustration exhibition is coming to Belfast – which will showcase some of the best loved children’s book characters. Curated by childrenʼs laureate and author of The Gruffalo, Julia Donaldson ʻThe Illustrators Exhibitionʼ, will runs from 21 February to 18 March at Belfast’s at the Crescent Arts Centre.
