Health and Safety warning for construction industry
The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) has issued a warning to the construction industry, following initial investigations into two recent fatal accidents.
The first of these fatal accidents took place in Belfast on November 19 and the second at Blackwater, County Armagh on December 4.
Issuing a warning to the construction industry, Ken Logan, Head of the Construction Sector at HSENI, said: “The circumstances surrounding these accidents are currently under investigation and HSENI cannot comment on these particular cases.
“However it is essential that the construction industry review current practices to ensure that they are working to proper health and safety standards.”
The first of the accidents involved the electrocution of an electrician during the wiring of a domestic dwelling. The second incident involved the death of an excavator driver.
Mr Logan concluded by saying that if anyone was unsure of safe practices they should contact HSENI’s Information and Advice Helpline on 0800 032 0121. (MB)
