Police Appeal On Dublin Gangland Shooting
The victim of a gangland-style killing at the weekend was suspected of involvement in at least two murders and - according to the Irish Times today - is believed to have even been paid by other criminals to shoot people.
Daniel Gaynor, 25, a father of two, may also have carried out a shooting on behalf of a former IRA member which left innocent postman Robert Delany in a permanent vegetative state.
The newspaper also said that Gaynor, originally from Berryfield Drive, Finglas, is the 18th person to die in similar gun attacks so far this year, almost of all of which have been gang-related.
Yesterday, detectives in Finglas issued a description of a person they are looking for in relation to Saturday's fatal shooting incident.
They said it happened at approximately 6.50pm with Daniel Gaynor shot in front of his two children at around 7pm.
He was wounded a number of times on the street at the junction of Barnamore Crescent and Saint Helena's Road, Finglas and was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Detectives said they are still trying to establish a motive for the murder, but said he was well known to gardai for his involvement in serious crime.
Detectives are now seeking a man described as being 5'9" to 6' in height, of thin build and wearing a grey/blue tracksuit top, a dark baseball cap and white gloves. Following the shooting the man escaped on foot in the direction of Tolka Valley.
In a search of the area conducted immediately following the shooting, Gardai discovered a handgun which is believed to have been the one used in the shooting and gardai are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Barnamore Crescent or Saint Helena's Road in Finglas or may have passed through the area between approximately 6.30pm and 7.10pm, or may have any information to contact Finglas Garda Station on 01-666 7500, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
