Derry Man Denies Strand Road Bombing
A 42-year-old man was refused bail today when he appeared at Londonderry Magistrates' Court charged with bombing a police station in the city earlier this month.
Remanding Philip O'Donnell - who comes from Baldrick Crescent in the city - the District Judge said the 12 charges in connection with the Strand Road bomb were "very serious" and said there were concerns Mr O'Donnell would flee the jurisdiction. The accused will appear in court again on 2 September via video link.
Among the dozen charges, Mr O'Donnell is accused of possessing explosives, hijacking a taxi and membership of Oglaigh na hEireann. He denied all the charges against him that are alleged to have taken place in the days leading up to the 3 August attack.
Meanwhile, another 54-year-old man is still being questioned about the attack after he was arrested on Monday with permission to detain him for four days, then to hold him for four more.
