Foresight Centre opens at Queen’s University
Small businesses were given a boost on Thursday with the opening of a £1 million centre dedicated to the needs of small businesses at Queen’s University, Belfast.
Based in the Northern Ireland Technology Centre at Queen’s, The Foresight Business Process Centre will offer small businesses advice of best practice in business. It will also offer guidance of affordable Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions.
Centre staff will also give impartial advice and demonstrate a range of business solutions, which may lead to increase productivity and profitability for all sectors of local business and industry.
Centre Manager Colm Higgins said the centre aimed to assist SMEs maintain their competitive edge in an ICT-dominated global market. (MB)

SMALL BUSINESSES ARE THE BEDROCK OF NI ECONOMY
SMALL businesses are the ‘bedrock’ of Northern Ireland’s economy Trade Minister Sir Reg Empey said at the official opening of an extension to the Ards Business Centre. The minister said that for the benefit of Northern Ireland’s economy the start up rate of small businesses in Northern Ireland must be increased.

Derry City retailers prepare for €uro countdown
As part of the drive to ensure Derry city shops are ‘Euro-friendly’ by January 1, 2002, retailers are being encouraged to participate in advice seminars. Organised by City Centre Initiative and the North West Institute of Further & Higher Education, each seminar aims to advise retailers on currency exchange rates, cash handling and dual pricing.
