Omagh Buses Seized Over Fuel

Enquiries are ongoing after officers from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) seized vehicles from a coach hire company in Omagh.

It happened last week as part of ongoing activity targeting fuel fraud.

The 11 coaches were seized when HMRC officers discovered kerosene, a fuel normally used for home heating, in the running tanks of the vehicles. Business records were also removed from the premises.

Mike Connolly, Assistant Director, Specialist Investigation, HMRC, said: "Legitimate businesses are already facing difficult times and it is wrong that they should be undercut by those involved in this type of fraud.

"It isn't about cheating the Government out of a few pounds; it's about depriving our public services of vital funding. We want businesses to be able to operate without the threat of unfair competition." he commented.

"HMRC is committed to working with the oils industry and legitimate businesses to ensure that the opportunities for fraudsters attempting to exploit supply chains are reduced.

"We would encourage anyone with information about this type of activity to contact us on our Custom's Hotline 0800 59 5000."
