Man arrested following pipe bomb attack in Coleraine

Police have arrested a man in connection with the pipe bomb attack in Articlave in Coleraine.

A family of five escaped injury when a pipe bomb exploded outside their house in the Wood End area of Articlave at 4:40am on Thursday morning.

The two adults and three children in the house were uninjured when shrapnel from the device penetrated the front door and a window.

A police spokesperson said that a vehicle was seen leaving the area at the time of the incident.

SDLP Assembly member John Dallat said that the sectarian attack had been carried out on an innocent Catholic couple with children in the house.

He said: “He said: "Let us hope and pray that in the lead up to Christmas, Catholic families in the Coleraine area may be allowed to lead normal lives, go about their affairs and have their human rights respected.

"That would be the wish of the vast majority of right thinking people in both communities who are equally appalled by this and other outrages." (SP)
