Minister in New York for Internet Trade Show

On the final day of his four-day visit to North America, Sir Reg Empey, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, was in New York to visit the Internet World Exhibition and Conference.

Eleven Northern Ireland companies were exhibiting on a joint e-technologies Capability and Information Stand, organised by Trade International and LEDU.

Speaking in New York, the Minister said: "Internet World provides an ideal platform for Northern Ireland companies to demonstrate their expertise and to make contact with decision makers and other innovators from the US and further afield.

"The recent achievements of three Northern Ireland technology companies - Kainos, Meridio and MineIt - in winning recognition in the Information Management Awards is the strongest signal possible that our companies have the innovative products and expertise to ensure success in the global marketplace.”

Sir Reg said a key objective of the trade mission to North America was to promote Northern Ireland as a leading European technology centre in line with the Executive's strategy to strengthen the knowledge-base of the local economy.

He added: "We are particularly keen to endorse the work of local companies showing innovative technology and smart ideas at Internet World and to highlight Northern Ireland's compelling business opportunity in both centres.”

Internet World is the world's biggest e-business and internet technology conference. This year the event is focusing on rapidly developing technology for the wireless internet and e-procurement. (MB)
