IFA President 'Off Side'
The boss of the Irish Football Association (IFA) has been 'sent off' with news last night that beleaguered Raymond Kennedy will resign as Irish FA president in September.
This followed a damning report into the sacking of former Chief Executive Howard Wells and the cost of the subsequent legal action.
The official Sport NI report was critical of both Mr Kennedy and the Vice President David Martin, who has already resigned on Monday.
While Mr Kennedy will step down at the next IFA council meeting in the autumn, he will retain international FIFA and UEFA positions and new IFA roles will include advising on the proposed redevelopment of Windsor Park.
He will also become an Honorary Life Vice President of the IFA following his departure.
An unfair dismissal case taken by Wells cost the Irish FA over £500,000 and it was feared government funding would be lost if the pair remained in office.
The Sports Minister, Nelson McCausland, was scathing of the IFA management following the report and implied that government funding could be held-up as a result.
He told BBC Radio Ulster this morning that he wasn't happy to see taxpayer's money going to an organisation that had left itself open to substantial legal costs on account of poor management.

The Irish Football Association (IFA) has confirmed that it received resignations from four members of the Executive Board - President, Raymond Kennedy, Vice President, David Martin, Honorary Treasurer, Neil Jardine and Board member Jim Shaw. That meant that the IFA was therefore unable to operate without the appropriate number of members.

New President Of IFA Elected
The Irish Football Association (IFA) has elected a new President. Mr David Martin, who has been Deputy President, Vice President and Treasurer of the Association, was voted in at a council meeting which was held at the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park. He succeeds Jim Shaw who has held the post of President since November 2010.
