Dublin Summit Considers Border Economy
Economic issues are expected to top the agenda when Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen hosts a meeting with Stormont's First and Deputy First ministers in Dublin today.
Taoiseach Brian Cowen will host Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness at the summit and is expected to be attended by 26 Ministers from both sides of the border.
The meeting is at Farmleigh in Phoenix Park, Dublin, and will also consider how both governments can work together to save money and to improve services. There will be a focus on co-operation in innovation and economic development.
Ministers will also review progress across a range of North-South co-operation, from cancer services in the northwest to cross-border infrastructure development.
Mr Robinson and Mr McGuinness are expected to raise concerns about possible job cuts arising from the sale of First Trust Bank, Northern Ireland subsidiary of the AIB group.
One issue also expected to be raised is a plan by the Irish Food Board, known as Bord Bia, to label Northern Ireland produce in a distinct way in order to encourage southern consumers to buy food from south of the border in preference to Northern Ireland products.
