Reports of explosion investigated in Fermanagh

British army bomb experts are continuing to examine a customs office in County Fermanagh after reports of an explosion.

Police received a telephone warning around 7pm on Sunday December 16 claiming a bomb had been left at the office in Killyhevlin industrial estate in Enniskillen.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who was in the area between 5pm and 6.50pm on Sunday night to come forward.

A spokesman for HM Customs said the office wasn’t staffed over weekends. He said: “This is not the law enforcement arm of Customs, it deals more with duty and VAT paperwork.”

At around the same time on Sunday there was a warning of a bomb at a hotel in Ballinamallard. The town’s Main Street was evacuated while police and soldiers checked the area, but the search revealed nothing suspicious. (AMcE)
