Major Maintenance Planned For M3

A busy main route into Belfast city centre is facing disruption this summer.

Northern Ireland Roads Service has announced plans to carry out major maintenance work at the M3 Lagan Bridge, pictured here in the shadow of the towering Obel development.

To facilitate the works a series of lane closures will be put in place at weekends beginning on 20 June and continuing until 19 September 2010.

Mark McPeak, Roads Service's Project Manager said: "Lagan Bridge requires replacement of the bridge joints to ensure its continued high performance in coping with today's traffic volumes.

"The works operations and traffic management arrangements have been carefully programmed to minimise inconvenience to the travelling public, local residents and businesses however some disruption will be unavoidable."

He continued: "The work has been scheduled to take advantage of reduced traffic flows at weekends. A diversion route will be signposted during each closure. Some delays will be inevitable and we ask that motorists be patient as these essential works progress."
