NI Men Questioned Over Cocaine Seizure
Police have recovered drugs and a knife and are questioning two men from Northern Ireland after stopping a car on the M1 near Dundalk.
The Garda said they seized a stash of cocaine after it was found in a car near the border.
A statement said that a car with two male occupants was searched and cocaine with a potential street value of €210,000 (£175,000) was uncovered along with a knife.
They said the vehicle was stopped on a motorway by a Garda patrol on Tuesday night and that officers then became suspicious when they discovered the passenger was carrying a knife.
The two occupants, aged 29 and 33-years-of-age, were taken to Dundalk Garda Station and the cocaine was discovered during a search of the car.
It happened at approximately 8.45pm last night, Tuesday police said, noting that one is being detained under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act and the other is being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Meanwhile, as the result of a separate operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in Dublin's Ballyfermot area officers from the local Drugs Unit searched a house on Cherry Orchard Parade at approximately 1pm yesterday afternoon.
During the course of this search heroin with a potential value of €150,000 was seized and a 19-year-old man arrested at scene.
He is presently detained at Ballyfermot Garda Station under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
Also yesterday, and again as part of an ongoing investigating into the sale and supply of illegal drugs, Blanchardstown Drug Unit officers seized cannabis plants with an estimated street value of up to €450,000.
A statement said that gardai carried out a planned search in sheds at the rear of a house on Blakestown Road on Tuesday and discovered an elaborate and high tech cannabis growing operation.
Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of up to €450,000 were discovered along with nine stun guns.
They said a man in his 20s was arrested at the scene and was being detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice ( Drug Trafficking ) Act 1996.
