Investment at Roche Vitamins Belfast plant
Roche Vitamins Europe have announced a significant investment in the firm’s animal feed premix factory in Belfast.
A spokesperson for Roche said: “Over the past few years Roche Vitamins share of the animal feed markets in Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic has grown steadily to a point where extra capacity was needed in our premix factory in Ireland”.
As part of the investment during 2002, a stainless steel mixer with ‘bomb door’ discharge and a state-of-the-art packing line will be installed to improve both capacity and efficiency. Raw material conveying systems will also be enhanced to further reduce any risk of cross contamination between batches of premix.
This investment is in line with Roche’s strategy to market an increasing proportion of their vitamins, carotenoids and enzymes via the premix route. This allows Roche, the world’s largest feed premixer, to develop closer links with feed compounders, integrated groups and farmers.
News of the Belfast announcement follows recent investment in new plants in Poland and Hungary.
Roche Vitamins Europe are also building new factories in Spain and Turkey with additional investment at their GB and Belgian plants.
Roche will continue to provide technical support to premix sales in Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic using their excellent team of nutritionists, who between them have over 60 years experience in the local animal feed market.
Under the management of Dr Graham Wilson the team comprises: John Sloan, ruminants; John Dunne, pigs; and Tom Hughes, poultry.
Further expertise is also available from throughout Europe as the Roche organisation, which has adopted a more integrated approach to the company’s operations across the continent. (SP)
