Garda detain seven men in County Louth
Gardaí investigating the activities of dissident republicans have detained seven men in County Louth.
The men were arrested by a special armed detective unit of the Garda, following a police operation in Dundalk on Sunday, January 6.
During the operation Gardaí seized a number of guns, a quantity of ammunition, and military style clothing.
It is understood that all the men are from the Dundalk area and are being questioned about offences against the state act. Reports indicate that the men were preparing to mount a “punishment attack”.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that at least one of the men was known to be operating in dissident republican groups.
Following a republican ceasefire in the 1990’s splits developed within the hardline republican factions resulting in several splinter groups including the Real IRA and the Continuity IRA. (SP)

Four men have been arrested by police investigating dissident republican activity. The men, aged 46, 47, 49 and 54 were detained in custody following a number of planned searches in Belfast on Tuesday, 23 August, They are currently being questioned at Musgrave Police Station.

Two Arrested In Connection With Dissident Republican Activity Released
Two men arrested in connection with dissident republican activity have been released. The pair, aged 31 and 22, were arrested in Co L'Derry on Thursday, 31 March. They were questioned at a police station in Belfast. The pair were released unconditionally.

Garda release two men without charge
Two men who were arrested by Gardai on Sunday in connection with the Omagh bomb investigation have been released from Carrickmacross Garda station. The two men, who are believed to be in their 20s and from County Armagh and County Monaghan, were released without charge on Monday night.

Men Released As Lurgan Terrorism Investigation Continues
Three men arrested during an anti-terrorism investigation in Lurgan have been released, the PSNI has reported. The men, aged 38, 45 and 52, were arrested on Thursday by officers from the PSNI's Terrorism Investigation Unit. A number of properties were searched during the operation and a number of items were removed for further examination.
