Attack on pensioner in Lisburn is condemned
The attack and robbery of a pensioner in Lisburn which left the victim suffering from shock and cuts to her hands has been condemed by community leaders.
The woman, who is in her 70’s, was attacked in the Cairnmore Drive area of Lisburn shortly before 11pm on Tuesday when a man grabbed her from behind and snatched her handbag and keys. The man and another person escaped in a dark-coloured car.
Condemning the attack, Patricia Lewsley of the SDLP said: “This is a despicable attack on an elderly woman. While one individual attacked the woman, another man stood near by wielding a baton.
“I have raised the increased number of attacks on elderly people in the Lisburn area both in the Assembly and with the police in the Lisburn area. I have also asked the Minister for Social Development to look at security arrangements in homes of vulnerable people, and ensure that they have panic buttons and other security devices fitted.”
Police in Lisburn are appealing for information and believe there may also have been a third person in the car. (MB)
