'Get Fresh' with St. George’s Market late night shopping

Belfast's late night shoppers will have the opportunity to 'Get Fresh' for longer, with the introduction of late night Thursday opening at St. George's Market.

The Thursday Market, which is being promoted with the message Get Fresh Twice A Week, will operate between 3pm and 9pm and has been launched by Belfast City Council with the support of the National Market Traders Federation.

The market hopes to capitalize on the popularity of late night shopping in Belfast on Thursday evenings and attract new customers who are unable to go to the traditional Friday morning market, which also has extended its opening hours, from 6am until 2pm.

Such has been the popularity of the revitalized Market that there is now a waiting list of some 60 traders seeking a pitch.

The new Thursday Market not only has allowed some of these traders the opportunity to trade at St. George's, but also means that the two markets are not entirely the same, offering increased variety for shoppers.

A specialist food section has also been added to both the Thursday and Friday Markets offering customers a new range of delicatessen foods including olives, oysters, specialist cheeses and salads, continental coffees and specialist breads and cakes.

A free Market Link Shuttle Bus operates on both Thursdays and Fridays between Donegall Place (outside Boots) and St. George's Market, leaving every 20 minutes. (SP)
