Raids result in two men remanded in custody on robbery charges
Two of the 12 men arrested in a major anti-crime swoop in Belfast have appeared in court on charges of armed robbery.
Appearing at Belfast Magistrates court on Wednesday January 9 were Mr Harry Porter, a 30-year-old window cleaner, from St George’s Gardens, and Mr Darren Clarke (20), from Henderson Avenue, both in Belfast.
Mr Porter was charged with using a shotgun and handgun in robbery of £280 at the King’s Head pub at Balmoral, South Belfast, in September 2000.
Mr Clarke was charged with robbery of £140 and cigarettes from a shop on the Lisburn Road last April using a wheel brace to commit the offence, and for stealing a car to commit the offence.
Both were remanded in custody for a month and their solicitors said bail applications would be made in the High Court.
Police said three other men will appear in the next few days on charges of theft, robbery and motoring offences.
In a series of dawn raids police searched 21 premises following a spate of armed robberies and burglaries in the south of the city on Tuesday January 8.
About 100 police officers were involved in the operation on more than 20 premises in the towns of Lisburn and Bangor on the outskirts of Belfast. Those detained were being questioned about robberies, burglaries and car thefts in the area. Police also seized a quantity of cannabis during the operation. (AMcE)

Man Arrested Over Armed Robbery In West Belfast
A man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in west Belfast. The robbery happened at a shop on Caffrey Avenue at around 9.30pm on Tuesday, 27 February. The suspect threatened a member of staff and made off with a sum of cash and cigarettes. He was arrested on Wednesday, 28 February, and has been detained in police custody.

Man Faces Robbery Charges
A man who attempted to rob a bar in west Belfast on Saturday night bought an imitation gun on the internet a court has heard today. Thomas Maguire, 44, from Rosnareen Avenue, Belfast was charged with attempted robbery. He was released on bail of £1,500.

Three remanded on armed robbery charges
Three men have been remanded in custody charged with kidnapping and armed robbery. The charges relate to two separate incidents in which security vans were robbed in Downpatrick in September 2004 and Belfast on April 2005, when almost £2 million was stolen. The three were also charged with kidnapping two people during the robberies.

Appeal Over Robbery And Attempted Robbery
Detectives in south Belfast have appealed for information following an attempted robbery at a fast food outlet on the Ormeau Road and a robbery on Rugby Avenue. It was reported on 4 December that a man armed with a knife entered the premises at around 22:15 and demanded money.
