Derry Tourist Bus Rammed By Joyriders

A bus full of tourist visitors was twice 'rammed' by a hit-and-run driver in Londonderry at the weekend.

The news emerged yesterday as the SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durka condemned the attack in the Bogside area of Derry City.

He said: "The local community is shocked and disgusted to learn of this attack. It is hard to fathom the mentality of those people who would ram a tour bus not only once, but twice.

"I appeal to anyone with information about this shameful attack to give it to the police immediately.

"I know that everyone in Derry will hope that those responsible for this attack will be caught and brought to justice as soon as possible," he said.

The incident happened at Rossville Street, close to the well-known Free Derry Corner in the Bogside, at about noon on Saturday.

Bus driver Dessie Lynch said it was a terrifying experience for passengers.

"I looked in the mirror and the car went back out of the bus and rammed it again. The people were squealing and roaring," he said.

The car was then driven off towards the Brandywell area of the city.
