Province’s education policy makers team up with American counterparts

The Stormont Education Minister, Martin McGuinness has praised the Boston college education policymakers programme and wished a group of educationalists from the north and the south well before their departure on the two-week programme in the United States.

The Education Policymakers Programme at Boston College is designed to observe models of education policy and practices at an exciting time of education development in the United States. The programme is funded and carried out with close co-operation with the US State Department.

Speaking at the orientation event for the participants at Parliament Buildings on Thursday January 10, Mr McGuinness said: “This is a terrific opportunity for local educationalists to find out about another country’s education system and to share ideas and experiences with others within their field.

“The first programme for education policymakers has been beneficial for people North and South of Ireland and I would like to thank the US State Department and Boston College for providing this programme.”

The reception was also attended by American Consul General, Barbara Stephenson, and Professor Tom Hachey, Director of the Irish Institute at Boston College.

In all 12 participants will attend the Education Policymakers Programme in America from January 19 to February 2 this year. (AMcE)
