CARA Group implements Citrix solution for Derry City Council
CARA Group Northern Ireland (NI), a leading provider of IT solutions in the province, has implemented a Citrix thin client and Microsoft Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000 end-to-end solution for Derry City Council.
The project also involved the implementation of a complete Windows 2000 infrastructure based on Compaq Proliant hardware including a complete migration of the council's legacy systems to Exchange 2000.
At the system's core is the provision of a common, centralised, manageable desktop services for all council staff, utilising MS Office 2000 and Exchange 2000. These core services are distributed via a five Citrix server farm to over 200 users in the Council's central offices and associated remote sites, providing a consistent desktop interface for all users.
Tim Woolsey, Sales Manager, CARA NI said: "The benefits of a Citrix thin client solutions lie in its central management of an organisation's systems. Derry City Council are now reaping the rewards of a simplified secure interface for all users and ease of implementation of new software and other additional updates.”
Uel Harvey, IT Manager, Derry City Council added: "Derry City Council needed a swift, trouble-free and cost-efficient transition from its legacy systems to the new Windows-based environment. We chose CARA NI because of its proven track record of designing and implementing solutions that deliver just that, along with cost and efficiency benefits across the Council's activities.”
The Council has also consolidated various applications onto two new servers to provide a dependable, manageable core service. This has allowed a swift, managed move to a more wide-ranging system for the council, allowing access to all these new core services via the Citrix ICA client. (MB)

Flood-Hit Families Could Be Locked Out For Months
Some Northern Ireland families whose houses were damaged in this week's floods have been told they could have to spend months away from home. Insurance companies have sent assessors to survey the damage and decide what to do next, after up to two hours of torrential rains on Wednesday night flooded streets and properties with water and sewage.

Derry council reiterate Brandywell support
Derry City Council has reiterated its support for the future plans of Brandywell Stadium after receiving criticism from the city's main football club. Derry chairman, Jim Roddy is believed to have questioned the commitment of the council over its plans to redevelop the stadium.

Rotary In £100m Takeover
A Northern Ireland building services company is to be taken over by an Australian firm in a multi-million pound transaction. It has emerged that the Co Antrim based company, Rotary Group, will be bought by the Australian Hastie Group in a deal worth almost £100 million. Rotary, which is based in Newtownabbey, employs 2,000 people around the world.
