Drunk Driver Spared Jail

A drunk driver has been spared jail despite being nearly four times over the legal limit and damaging eight cars.

Deborah Hastings caused £45,000 worth of damage after her two chaotic drink-driving offences.

On March 24, she was behind the wheel of her Smart car in the evening with no lights on when she hit an Audi, which collided with a Citroen, magistrates heard.

She did not stop and later ploughed into two parked vehicles, destroying her Smart car. In a breathalyser test, the 43-year-old from Wallsend, Tyne And Wear, was found to be more than three-and-a-half times the drink-drive limit.

On April 10, she crashed a blue van into two parked cars and could not give a breath test, the court heard.

The 43-year-old admitted ten offences, including driving with excess alcohol.

Her solicitor, Adrian Ions, told North Tyneside magistrates’ court she had an alcohol addiction and was suffering from stress and depression.

Magistrates gave her a 26-week prison sentence suspended for a year, a 12-month supervision order and told her to take part in drink-drivers’ rehabilitation. She was also banned from driving for four years.
