Meeting arranged over Coats Viyella Randalstown plant

Around 200 jobs could be under threat at Coats Viyella’s hemming unit in Randalstown following news that the company’s home furnishing division is in financial difficulties.

The company’s current financial plight follows the sale of the company’s Dorma France and Erbelle businesses, which would remove the need for the retention of the three existing UK hemming units.

However, a meeting has been arranged for January 23 between management and the Transport and General Workers Union, who have pledged to “explore every avenue” to keep the Randalstown plant open and save the jobs of the mainly female workforce.

Responding to the rumours, the company admitted that changes in the size and structure of the business had forced them to reconsider the future of their Randalstown plant. (MB)
